Tale Associated with Shattila Ekadashi:
As narrated in the Padma Puran, a wealthy woman once refused to share food or donate to the less fortunate. One day, Lord Krishna visited her home disguised as a poor man, asking for food. Reluctantly, she offered Him a ball of mud. Witnessing her cruel and heartless behavior, Krishna decided to teach her a lesson. At the time of her death, she faced severe hunger and deprivation, realizing too late the error of her ways. In agony and repentance, she began praying to Krishna. He appeared before her, offering guidance. Following His instructions, she performed rituals, including donating sesame seeds, offering prayers to Lord Vishnu, and practicing selflessness. Ultimately, she was freed from her karmic burdens and attained spiritual liberation.
This poignant story highlights the importance of charity, humility, and devotion. It reminds us that true wealth lies not in material possessions, but in acts of compassion.
How to observe Shattila Ekadashi:
Devotees typically begin by taking baths, applying tilak, and lighting a ghee lamp in front of Lord Krishna's picture. They offer flowers, sesame seeds, and sweets, and engage in charitable acts such as donating sesame seeds, black cows, fruits, and warm clothing according to their capacity.
